Email correspondence from Byron Case
to Patrick Rock on 23 January 1998.

Emphasis is added to highlight particular information, and it has been edited for brevity and privacy.

In this email, Byron Case talks only a little about his interrogation by the Jackson County Sheriff's Department, but discusses Kelly Moffett's interrogation a bit more. He mentions that she guided the police through the "events of the evening".

He inserts a new topic in here, about just how "fiercely" Justin and Anastasia fought that night, and that it was a highly unusual thing. In all his later descriptions of the night he never mentioned that the argument was particularly nasty.

The rumor about Justin purchasing a shotgun and being recorded on security camera was heard at Anastasia's funeral. I don't recall who it was that said it. Rumors seemed to run rampant that day.

Kelly and I went in on the same day, as my car was broken-down at the time, and the only ride we could get was from her mother. She was questioned at a later time without me, when the police had her guide them (in a squad car) through the events of that evening. That was the time when she was asked about their "suicide cult" theories.

I doubt Anastasia was naive enough to get into a car with a stranger, but the events of that evening weren't exactly "normal".

Justin and Stasia argued a lot, but never as fiercely as they did that night. My point is that she may not have been thinking straight, and did just that. Who's to say. Honestly, the chances of an acquaintance knowing where she was going to be - and when - are VERY improbable.
