The body of an 18-year-old Independence woman who died of a gunshot wound to the head was found early Thursday at a cemetery in the 8400 block of Truman Road.

Anastasia E. WitbolsFeugen was found by a Jackson County sheriff's deputy patrolling Lincoln Cemetery. The University of Missouri-Kansas City student was discovered about one-quarter mile inside the cemetery, which is in an unincorporated area between Independence and Kansas City.

Capt. Tom Phillips said the woman was the victim of a homicide, but police have no suspects.

Family members declined to comment.

Phillips said WitbolsFeugen last was seen alive about 4:30 p.m. Wednesday. Police are looking for anyone who might have seen her after that time.

WitbolsFeugen had straight, shoulder-length strawberry-blond hair. She was found wearing a brown corduroy coat with black slacks and black shoes. She was about 5 feet 3 inches tall and weighed approximately 110 pounds.

Anyone who might have seen WitbolsFeugen on Wednesday evening is asked to call the TIPS Hotline, 474-8477, or the Jackson County Sheriff's Department, 524-4302.
