Legislators to discuss Sunshine Law case

Jackson County legislators have scheduled a hearing to discuss a recent court decision against the Office of Human Relations and Citizen Complaints.

The court ruled earlier this month that two commissioners and the director of the department violated the state's Sunshine Law, which sets rules for open meetings and records.

It has not been determined whether the people found in violation of the law or the county will pay the fines and the plaintiff's legal fees. Legislators are concerned about leaving people who violated the law while working for the county to pay their own fines and the legal fees.
